Dental second opinion in Dreieich
Clarity before your decision.
In recent years, an above-average number of patients have sought a dental second opinion at smileDentity. For this reason, we explain the most important points on this topic here – clearly, neutrally and to the point.
Why can a dental second opinion make sense?
Especially for complex, more elaborate prosthetic dental treatments, a second opinion can make sense in order to gain even more clarity about your individual situation – even if in the end it is only a matter of having your own dentist’s original plan confirmed. This creates trust and a better feeling about the upcoming procedures.
At smileDentity, we record the relevant findings and include existing documents such as X-rays already taken in the assessment. We form our diagnosis exclusively on the basis of objective criteria – based on the available findings and examination results.
If further examinations make sense, we will be happy to advise you. For example, targeted material tests for allergens can be carried out – for instance with regard to the materials that are to be used for you – or a laboratory blood test with a non-specific question regarding any existing type IV allergies.
You can read more on this topic in our article on Biological Holistic Dentistry.
Your decision is at the centre.
Of course, you will also receive a well-founded assessment of the treatment options from us – including the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment paths and alternatives.
We expressly emphasise: it is not uncommon for us to endorse our colleagues’ treatment decisions. It is solely in our interest that you as a patient make a decision that you can stand behind fully. For this reason, we also recommend that our own existing patients seek a second opinion if they are uncertain.
Can auction portals help compare the price of dental treatment?
For us, a clear no. On auction portals, treatment and cost plans are uploaded, whereupon dentists undercut each other. This system has nothing to do with serious dentistry – it is much more about price dumping and patient fishing.
The treatment and cost plan usually contains the individual roadmap for a patient’s treatment and thus also reflects the personal treatment path of the current dentist. So how can a dentist who has never seen or examined the patient take over the same treatment plan and then even offer it more cheaply? We clearly distance ourselves from such an approach.
In our view, a second opinion is not a sign of mistrust towards your long-standing dentist – on the contrary, it can even strengthen trust further. It creates security and transparency, and when dentist and patient stand together behind a goal, this can only have a positive effect on the desired result.

How to prepare.
Please bring all relevant documents to your appointment. If you wish, we will also be happy to request X-ray documents directly from your previous dental practice for you.

The process of your second opinion.

- Neutral adviceDetailed, neutral advice on medical necessity, urgency, quality and sustainability. Our goal: to dispel your doubts and inform you so that you can make a decision you feel good about.

Second opinion on completed or supposedly faulty treatments
Supposedly faulty dental treatments are a sensitive topic for everyone involved – patients often feel left alone with their problem and shy away from going to their own dentist. Claims for fee refunds, compensation for pain and suffering or reimbursement of follow-up treatment costs are often immediately at issue.
We therefore approach this topic very neutrally, empathetically and in a solution-oriented way, and initially proceed in exactly the same way as with a second opinion before a planned treatment.
In the best case – for example with a prosthetic restoration – it is only a matter of minor issues that can be remedied by a simple correction by the responsible dentist.
In these cases, we do not initially carry out any treatment ourselves. Only a pure examination of the findings takes place so that we can gain an overview of the situation.
We are very familiar with legal aspects such as the law on service contracts and the dentist’s right to remedy defects in this context – we will be happy to give you individual guidance on how to proceed.
In summary: when does a dental second opinion make sense?
A dental second opinion is recommended in particular for the following topics and treatments:

- Inlay, onlay, overlay or veneer treatments
- Implants
- Root canal treatments
- Periodontal therapies
